The M1A is the civilian legal semi automatic version of the M14. Of course, most M14s were converted to semi automatic only anyway. The M14 rifle is a US selective fire rifle firing 7.62 NATO ammunition. It was the standard issue U.S. rifle from 1959 to 1970. It remains in limited front line service with US forces, and it is famous for its accuracy at long ranges and for its toughness and reliability. The M14 also provides the basis for the M21 and M25 sniper rifles and there are also short barrel versions in use with US Special Forces. A classic design that is still soldiering on after half a century of constant use.
